The Polder was first introduced by Vitra in 2005 and is celebrated for its careful combination of comfort, colour and texture. A low armrest is integrated on one end of the sofa, while the other is bordered by an adjoining platform that can serve as a storage surface for books or trays. The platform also functions as an ottoman, which can be used as its own separate stool. Available in a series of character rich colourways, the Polder is guaranteed to inject Jongerius's celebrated sense of creativity and style into any space.
Dutch industrial designer Hella Jongerius was born in de Meern, Holland in 1963. She studied at the Academy for Industrial Design, in Eindhoven and first gained notoriety in 1993 as a member of the renowned Dutch design group Droog Design. In 2000 she started her own Rotterdam-based design company with the company-name 'JongeriusLab'.
JongeriusLab creates a unique collection of products including contemporary ceramics, textiles, tableware and modern furniture. Her works deliberately show the traces of how they were made, embracing imperfections and unusual mixtures of materials and techniques.
