Compiled from her years of studying textile design, Laurent produced the Two Ways, a rug constructed from three layers of hardwearing paper yarn. The optical effect of the three layers means the Two Ways appears to change as you travel round the room.
Merete Erbou Laurent is a trained textile designer educated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts with a special focus on pictorial weaving and tapestry.
In recent years Erbou has used this background to set out to explore the manufacturing of floor rugs in paper yearn at her own design studio. After studying at the School of Architecture Aarhus' department of design and space her interest in rugs and runners dialogue with light, space, colors and furniture was aroused.
She uses her many years of artistic work – now complemented with a contemporary design education – to develop a carpet design combining her artistic talent with craftsmanship and industrial production.
