Giancarlo Mattioli was born in Italy in 1933, and rose to prominence during the 1950s and 60s. His most famous work, the Nesso Table Lamp, forms part of the collection at New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), as well as numerous design museums worldwide. The Nesso Table Lamp won first prize at the Studio Artemide Domus competition in Milan in 1965, and remains as stylish and modern today, as it did over 50 years ago.
Mattioli’s other crowning achievement is his part in the formation of the Gruppo Architect Urbanisti “Citta Nuova”, together in collaboration with Pierluigi Cervellati, Umberto Maccaferri, Franco Morelli, Gianpaolo Mazzucato and Mario Zaffagnini.
