Inside The Audo House, Copenhagen
In a city with an unmistakable sense of style, The Audo House is one of Copenhagen’s newest and finest design destinations. We were lucky enough to spend a night inside one of the Audo’s stunning suites, join us for a look inside.
Founded in 1978 by Bjarne Hansen, MENU has worked collaboratively for over 40 years to create human-centric, beautifully designed environments. The Danish design company has now relocated its headquarters to The Audo House, a unique hybrid that brings together a hotel, head office, café and co-working space. Reflecting the current blurring of lines between home, work and hospitality, Audo Copenhagen brings together creative spirits from across the globe in a space for collaboration.
Located in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn district, Audo Copenhagen teamed up with long-term collaborators Norm Architects to restore and transform a disused merchants house. Originally built in 1918, the designers chose to preserve the building’s historic façade whilst giving the interiors a minimalist makeover, mixing period features with exposed concrete, raw wood and tactile furnishings.
Audo Copenhagen’s distinctive range of furniture, lighting and accessories has been tastefully styled alongside a curated selection of art and design from premium, global brands. On the ground floor of The Audo House, nearly all of the partition walls have been removed to create a free-flowing, open-plan space with concrete floors and a perforated black metal ceiling. This hard shell is interrupted by the soft upholstered lines of the Tearoom Chairs and the luxurious, tactile marble of the Plinths.
Alongside the ground floor entrance, shop and café, The Audo showcases 10 unique hotel suites, nestled into the building’s former attic space underneath original timber ceiling beams. As you travel up the floors in the building, the materials and colours used within the interiors become softer, warmer and ever more tactile. Featuring items such as the Offset Sofa, JWDA Table Lamps and the TR Bulb, these luxurious suites are the perfect place for a design lover to spend the night in Copenhagen.
