Nest perspectives
January is the perfect time of the year for adopting a new perspective and working on positive habits.
Sometimes we can forget how important looking after our wellbeing is and get lost in other responsibilities. Reflecting on what works and what you would like to work toward can be invaluable at shaping a happier, healthier you.
Inspired by Ferm Living’s Six Tips for a Fresh Start, our team at Nest have adopted this idea of changing mindsets and share their personal ambitions for adopting positive habits for improving mental health and wellbeing.
‘Most of all, breathe...’
Live in the moment and grasp the day with both hands.
Jess - Marketing Manager
It can be easy to feel the pull to be constantly ‘doing’, ‘sharing’, and ‘producing’ more as we navigate a fast-paced, digital world where anything is possible, and the emphasis is on what you ‘could be’ doing.
I’m learning to listen to my sense of self, prioritise my wellbeing and believe in being kind and accepting of myself. I try to remind myself of the value to take time for me, however that might manifest itself, and practising gratitude.
Thoughtful consumption
Make this a year of considered choices.
Adam - E-commerce Editor
Buy once, buy well. It’s a mantra that you will see all over nest.co.uk. A major part of our ethos, the concept of careful consumption sits at the heart of everything that we do and is a mantra that runs beyond furniture for me personally.
I’m a big supporter of the idea of making thoughtful choices when it comes to what I buy and put a lot of research into where a product is made, how it is made, and who it is made by. I tend to keep away from trends and stick to timeless aesthetics and buy vintage where possible.
Immerse yourself
Whether it’s an old habit or a new hobby, invest your time in something that makes you feel good.
Donna - Finance Manager
Lockdown has taught us a lot of valuable things, use the time you have wisely, enjoy yourself, and look after yourself. I started running to try and keep fit and this is now my escape, for when I need a bit of me time to clear my head.
Fiona - Ecommerce Editor
Looking for a way to improve my mental health and wellbeing prompted me to take the time to rediscover a few of my passions. Art has always given me a sense of enjoyment, allowing me to create without limits and channel my energy and emotions into something calming.
Don’t let the dust settle
Clear your mind and space to make room for more positive ways of living.
Kat - Content Copywriter
You can sometimes become immune to the clutter in your own home, but I find that having a good declutter is really satisfying and helps to clear my mind.
Living in quite a small house, I’ve made a conscious effort to condense my belongings and reduce the amount of furniture in my bedroom this winter. My most treasured pieces of furniture now have pride of place and it has also really improved my sleep quality.
Spending time in nature
Embrace the wild outdoors and simply take in the beauty of it all.
Zara - Ecommerce Team Leader
I’m lucky enough to live near some beautiful parks and woodland areas and enjoy listening to a good podcast or some music and going on a walk! It makes me feel energised and refreshed to spend time outdoors and take time to appreciate the nature and the local scenery that is on my doorstep.
Sam - Purchasing Team Leader
Spending time in nature is good for my peace of mind. Hearing sounds of nature around me, whether that be the birds singing, leaves rustling, or the rain falling on the leaves helps me get my mind levelled and gain some perspective on what’s important in life. I suppose it’s natural, given we are a part of the ecosystem!
Sort out your sleep
Prioritise feeling refreshed and ready for the next day ahead.
Paige - Marketing Assistant
Being well-rested is very important to me. If I haven’t slept well, it affects my mood and productivity levels immensely. I’ve found the best way for me to get a good night’s sleep is to make sure my bedroom is clean and clutter-free, I then let my oil diffuser fill my room with scents of lavender followed by my skincare routine to help me drift off to a deep sleep.
Taking time for ourselves is key for keeping positive and maintaining a healthy mindset. We all have different needs and obligations to find our own way of relaxing and looking after ourselves. Whether that be physically, mentally, or simply living consciously. Remember to take some time out for yourself once in a while, it will have a positive impact on your overall health.
We hope you found some encouragement to live with a positive outlook on life. Each theme was inspired by Ferm Living, and you can shop their dynamic collection on our brand page.
