The bathroom checklist
The bathroom. Although one of the most disruptive rooms to decorate, a well thought out bathroom can have a huge impact on your quality of life. A sanctuary from the daily rush, any good bathroom is as much about relaxing as it is about functionality.
From lighting to storage - our bathroom checklist runs you through a list of important considerations, to help you to curate a stylish bathroom, perfectly tailored to your needs. So, choose soft textiles, set the right mood lighting and indulge in a little bit of luxury. You deserve it!
It’s all in the details
With easily cleanable surfaces, bathrooms can have a reputation for being quite clinical. But don’t be scared to let your personality shine through in the details. If your bathroom is in need of some TLC, but you don’t have the budget for a full refit - small details can make a huge difference.
Treat yourself to a beautiful handheld mirror, evoke old memories with your favourite candle or create an eye-catching jungle centrepiece - take what makes you happy and make a feature of it for instant impact.

Clear away the clutter
Whatever room you’re in, clutter isn’t great for relaxation. This is especially important in the bathroom where bottles of shampoo, medicines and toilet rolls all tend to congregate. However, with the right storage solution - this is a problem that is easy to fix.
We recommend investing in a couple of types of storage in the bathroom, both closed cabinets and easily accessible open shelves. Closed cabinets are great for hiding away toiletries whilst open shelving allows you to display a few key items and show off your personality. Look for both wall-mounted and floor standing options.
The perfect place for plants
The warm and humid bathroom environment makes the perfect home for plenty of house plants. Helping to improve your air quality and introducing a much-needed splash of life - varieties such as ferns and orchids do well in bathrooms, thriving in environments with high humidity, temperature variations and often low light levels.
Create a statement by layering your greenery at different heights. Plants stands and boxes are a great way to add impact to your bathroom.
A place to sit
Introducing a place to sit can instantly diversify your bathroom. For rooms where space is at a minimum, a well-designed stool can be both a place to perch, a place to pop your clothes or even a plant stand. If you are lucky enough to have the luxury of a large bathroom, why not consider a bathroom lounge chair? Create the same luxurious atmosphere you find in great hotels at home by indulging in a little extravagance.
Simplify your colour scheme
They say that a good bathroom should last for up to 20 years. Whilst this is great for keeping disruptive renovations to a minimum, it does take careful thought to design a bathroom which won't become dated a few years down the line.
When picking out fixtures and fittings, we recommend sticking to a minimal colour scheme. A classic combination of black and white will never go out of fashion and can be easily accessorised to add splashes of colour.
Set the mood
One of the most impactful additions to a bathroom is the right lighting, but when it comes to choosing your designs - safety is key. All lights are given an Ingress Protection (IP) rating which measures how resistant the light is to both water and dust particles. Bathroom lights should be at least IP44, which means they are splash-proof.
Traditionally bathroom lighting is either ceiling or wall-mounted but there is more and more choice appearing on the market. We love the range of portable LED lighting now available. Designed to be suitable for use inside and out, these chargeable, portable designs give almost the same ambience as a candle.
