3daysofdesign 2023: Our highlights
A three-day event that exhibits the very best in design, 3daysofdesign serves as a platform for renowned brands, emerging designers, and creative minds to come together and celebrate the world of design.
Immersing ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the event, we explored the city of Copenhagen, attended captivating design showcases, and met with some of our favourite brands. Now in its 10th year with over 290 exhibitors, discover our highlights from the festival.
House of Finn Juhl
Kicking off our time at 3daysofdesign, we visited House of Finn Juhl to join in the unveiling of the 77 Chair, a true masterpiece of craftsmanship. Visitors to the showroom were immersed in the rich world of Danish design heritage, walking amongst the evolution of Finn Juhl's iconic designs as the unveiling of the 77 Chair took centre stage.
Dubbed 'perhaps the designer's least iconic chair', the 77 Chair's modest exterior offers unparalleled comfort with a solid blind frame in beech that is upholstered and hand-stitched according to traditional craftsmanship, reaffirming the brand's commitment to excellence and dedication to the Danish design legacy.
Vipp
As a new brand for Nest.co.uk, we were excited to see Vipp's space and their remarkable product catalogue. Living up to expectations, Vipp's impeccable attention to detail was evident in every aspect of their 3 Days on the Sunny Side installation. From their iconic pedal bins to their luxurious sofas, every piece was a testament to Vipp's ability to blend form and function seamlessly.
&Tradition
&Tradition's 3daysofdesign 2023 exhibition, aptly named 'Under ONE ROOF,' took us on a journey of sensory exploration. Walking through the doors to the four-storey showroom, visitors were immediately engaged in a symphony of sights, sounds, and textures, as 'Under ONE ROOF' showcased the essence of the &Tradition brand. From awe-inspiring Flowerpot displays to a unique glimpse at their classic designs in the Arkheia room, the &Tradition team guided us through their captivating installations.
Among the exhibition's highlights was the introduction to the Mnemonic range, where we had the opportunity to talk with the perfumer, gaining a better understanding of the scents and how they accentuate the &Tradition universe.
HAY
Within the vibrant atmosphere of HAY House, HAY showcased their latest launches and treated visitors to exclusive previews. Full of highlights from their forthcoming Autumn collections, the exhibition demonstrated their unwavering commitment to innovative design. Previewing collaborations with Stefan Diez, Muller Van Severen, and Jasper Morrison, HAY demonstrated their continued dedication to bringing exciting and innovative designs to the market.
Normann Copenhagen
We had the pleasure of visiting Normann Copenhagen’s flagship store, which transformed into the captivating Hotel Normann—an exhibition open to all.
Set across three floors, Hotel Normann delighted us with numerous inspiring areas, each exuding its own distinctive interior style. From the Purple Club's vibrant Pix Pendant arrangement to the Courtyard Lounge's al fresco setting with the new Vig Outdoor collection, each space had its unique expression, inviting us to relax, socialise, and appreciate the numerous new designs the brand debuted during the event.
GUBI
GUBI, renowned for their remarkable blend of retro elegance and contemporary design, showcased an impressive array of recent releases and upcoming collections.
GUBI's recently refurbished showroom effortlessly captured the essence of summer while retaining their signature retro aesthetic. With designs from Gianfranco Frattini and Paavo Tynell, GUBI's upcoming collections pay homage to design eras that continue to inspire and captivate.
Carl Hansen & Son
Carl Hansen & Son's Flagship Store transformed into the 'House of Craft' for the 3daysofdesign exhibition. A haven of design innovation and sustainable craftsmanship, visitors discovered the brand's latest novelties and exciting news. We watched guests work with Carl Hansen & Son craftspeople to create a personalised 'Wonder of Wood' artwork using sustainable materials, an excellent way to celebrate creativity and environmental consciousness.
Vitra
In collaboration with Royal Copenhagen, Vitra celebrated The Art of Hosting. The exhibition effortlessly translated Charles and Ray Eames' love for creating connections through design and hosting friends and family. Showcasing an elegant table setting lined with a selection of Vitra Eames Shell Chairs, the tablescape was full of playful detailing, from embroidered quotes on the napkins to Vitra minis placed amongst the tableware.
Muuto
With a dedication to exploring insights and perspectives that shape our contemporary lifestyles, Muuto's In Flux exhibition was a fusion of sleek minimalism and vibrant energy, reflecting the brand's distinctive Scandinavian aesthetic.
Thoughtfully curated, the exhibition invited visitors to delve into Muuto's universe of modern living and working. Demonstrating how to create spaces that make us feel at ease in an ever-changing world, Muuto's dedication to understanding the ever-changing landscape of contemporary living and working was evident throughout.
ferm LIVING
During our visit to ferm LIVING at 3daysofdesign, we explored a captivating blend of art and design. Taking place in their brand house, the mesmerising Art of Home exhibition showcased their new designs alongside design stories and beautiful installation art. Outside, the Responsibility tent highlighted the brand's commitment to sustainability. Produced in collaboration with Lin Halding Andersson, a student at the Royal Danish Academy, the immersive exhibition used layers of cloth to communicate the CO2e footprint behind a product. Demonstrating ferm LIVING's intentions to become more transparent and inspire consumers to make more responsible choices, the Responsibility tent offered a tactile and discernible way to track the four most significant emission drivers.
Audo Copenhagen
3daysofdesign marked the first opportunity to visit the recent collaboration of MENU and by Lassen under the new design house of Audo Copenhagen. Hosted at the Audo, we were taken on an intimate exploration of the home, walking through a series of inspiring spaces.
Captivated by the marriage of minimalist aesthetics, impeccable craftsmanship, and refined Scandinavian sensibility, the seamless fusion of the brands showcased a new chapter that left us eagerly anticipating what is to come for this unified design house.
Fritz Hansen
At the prestigious Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, the Fritz Hansen ‘Expressions of Character’ exhibition showcased iconic designs from the brand’s past collections. Classic pieces like Arne Jacobsen’s stacking chair were creatively deconstructed, immersing visitors in the essence of Scandinavian minimalistic architecture and the principles of Danish design. Outside, the courtyard featured a selection of stunning pieces from the Skagerak Collection.
Shaded by the Messina and Catania Umbrellas, artist and designer Jaime Hayon discussed the well-being and the convergence of art, design and architecture with Fritz Hansen and Dezeen.
As we bid farewell to the 3daysofdesign 2023 exhibition, we leave with a newfound appreciation for all our brand's meticulous approach to design. From more sustainable processes to rejuvenating archive designs, the exhibition gave us a tantalising glimpse into what will come and the direction that the industry is heading.
