Crafted from 100% recycled plastic waste derived from industrial production, the Normann Copenhagen Pix Pendant Light is characterised by its eye-catching pixelated surface. The recycled plastic is produced in a granulated form, which gives the pendant’s shade its distinctive structure. Simon Legald has married the timeless form of the spherical pendant light with a striking and sustainable new material.
The four sizes allow you to tailor the pendant to suit your space, whether suspending one of the larger versions over a dining table or kitchen island or using a cluster of smaller pendants to cast soft light across a lounge or bedroom space.
Simon Legald studies design at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and will graduate in the Summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable, and is what describes functionality of the products. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological- and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects, and makes them trustworthy. In my designs I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
