Combining paper with stained oak accents, veteran designer Jaime Hayon has put a contemporary twist on the classic form of the paper lantern. A ubiquitous feature of interiors across Asia, these traditional lanterns are often available in a huge variety of different colours and shapes, each one with its own meaning.
Hayon’s collection for &Tradition dispenses with cultural formalities, with the JH3 Formakami combining spherical and hemispherical shapes in different proportions to create a striking pendant light. Whether hung singly or with other pieces from the collection, the graceful minimalism of this pendant is ideally suited to a modern home.
Spanish artist and industrial designer Jaime Hayon was born in Madrid in 1974.
In 1997, he began working as a researcher at Fabrica, Benetton Group’s communication and research centre in Treviso, Italy. 2004 saw the start of Hayon’s individual career and he has kept himself busy with a spectrum of eclectic projects. From toys, to modern furniture and interior design as well as artistic installations, his boldness has been to transcend the borders of the often separated worlds of art and design, comfortably bridging the two whilst embedding them with his own unique style.
