The A811 was the last addition to Alvar Aalto’s range of floor lights, and while similar in form to the lighting created for the National Pensions Institute in Helsinki in the 50s, the A811 floor lamp didn’t come into being until 1965.
Combining a polished brass or nickel collar with a black leather stand, the A811 features a single hand-turned shade made of delicate, lacquered metal strips that prevent glare by diffusing light evenly.
As one of the great architects and furniture designers of the 20th century, Finnish designer Alvar Aalto breathed life and warmth into modernism, placing emphasis on "organic" geometry; supple, natural materials; and a respect for human feeling.
Alvar Aalto's collection of mid-century furniture and lighting is produced exclusively by Scandinavian brand Artek including the iconic Artek 60 Stool.
