The Artek AMA500 is one of Artek's oldest designs and has now been reintroduced into the range. The pendant casts a generous amount of light downwards, whilst a small amount of light passes through the upper decorative brass ring, creating beautiful reflections and a warming ambience. Finally, a brass lower ring not only adds decorative interest, but also creates a soft transition of light at the edge of the shade, preventing glare.
Aino Marsio Aalto was a Finnish architect and pioneer of Scandinavian design. She is known as a co-founder of the design company Artek, and as a collaborator on its most well-known designs.
As Artek's first artistic director, her creative output spanned textiles, lamps, glassware, and buildings. Aino married Alvar Aalto in 1925 and continued to work in the Artek design office until her death in 1949, with many of her designs still produced to this day.
