Produced as part of Artek’s FIN/JPN Friendship Collection, which seeks to mark the 100-year anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan, the Kiulu Bench is a lovingly crafted take on a traditional, casual seating platform. Inspired by the public bathing cultures of both Finland and Japan, the Kiulu Bench typifies the refinement and ability to create new forms for which designer Koichi Futatsumata is renowned. Combining satisfying cylinders with functional seating, the Kiulu Bench perfectly combines form and function, with the resulting piece being one that serves several purposes. It can be used as a seat and basket, and offers storage for a vast array of items in a range of rooms, from the hallway to the bathroom.
Koichi Futatsumata is the director of Koichi Futatsumata Studio which specialises in product design.
He works internationally from his bases in Fukuoka and Tokyo where he focuses on architecture, interior, furniture and products.
