Appearing as a delicate silhouette rather than a solid block, the innovative design is a synthesis of contrasts, sophisticated engineering and creative expression. Crafted from a mixture of wood, steel and rope, the elements unite to create a simple, artistic gesture. Made for marine use, the rope is at the heart of the chair’s unexpected comfort; the rope's flexibility allows the chair to adapt to those who use it, inviting creativity in posture and encouraging movement and changes in position. An eye-catching, expressive addition to your home, perfect for use as a dining or desk chair, the Bouroullec brother's design brings raw materiality to the forefront.
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, the Breton-born brothers, are the stars of European design and the most promising industrial designers to have emerged from France since Philippe Starck in the 1980s.
A combination of romanticism and functionality runs throughout both brothers’ work. Like all truly talented designers, the Bouroullecs have defined a distinctive visual style, which Jasper Morrison (one of the designers they most admire) described as “thoughtful and disciplined, with a real spirit and poetry”.
