In the development of the AH outdoor collection, Alfred Homann was guided by simplicity, clarity, and logic, removing all superfluous details from the furniture to allow their simple, minimalist expression to shine through. Each piece has been designed to be highly functional, in the case of the Lounge Chair, with a capacious seat and armrests positioned for maximum comfort.
Homann’s intimate understanding of the physical form is evident from the graceful curve of the armrests and backrest, perfectly mirroring the body’s contours to emphasise comfort. The chair’s limbs are expertly joined and polished by Carl Hansen & Son’s artisans to achieve a beautifully soft and tactile surface.
Born in 1948, Alfred Homann grew up in southern Zealand, Denmark. In 1976, he graduated as an architect from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine arts in Copenhagen. He spent several years working alongside a variety of different Danish and American architects, developing his own style, rooted in simplicity, clarity and logic. His keen eye, precision, and rigorous thoroughness can be seen in his wide range of architectural projects, along with an array of furniture and lighting designs.
In addition to establishing studios in both Copenhagen and the United States, Homann aslo spent time travelling the world, lecturing and giving presentations. Over the course of his career he received multiple international awards and accolades for his body of work, including the Red Dot award, the IF Product Design-Award, and a Brunel Award.
