Originally praised for its subtle aesthetics and meticulous attention to detail, Borge Mogensen’s iconic table bench is a staple of modernist design. With its cane wicker seat and beautiful solid oak frame, Mogensen’s original design was relaunched by Carl Hansen & Son as the BM0488. The designer’s vision was to create a piece of enduring furniture that could adapt to a home’s changing needs.
Honouring this philosophy, the brand has enhanced the design with the addition of a natural paper cord seat. Using 335 metres of hand-woven cord, the seat is reminiscent of other classic designs. Able to be used as a coffee or side table, sideboard or nightstand, the BM0489L is a versatile addition to any home.
Borge Mogensen (1914–1972) started his career as a cabinetmaker in 1934.
In 1936 he went on to study at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts under Professor Kaare Klint before entering the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from where he graduated as an architect in 1942. He became head of design at FDB (the Danish co-op) in 1942 before establishing his own design office in 1950.
