Like the complimentary Huntsman Chair, the BM1160 Hunting Table is inspired by traditional European hunting and campaigning furniture. Designed to be carried over long distances or rough terrain, this kind of furniture was prized for its utility and rugged design. Mogensen has captured this functionality while enhancing it with his trademark attention to detail and eye for contemporary design.
Designed for the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Furniture Exhibition in 1950, the Hunting Table combines precise joinery with elegant metal structural elements. The extensive use of solid wood gives the table a distinctly natural feel, with a richly tactile feel provided by the prominent wood grain.
Now produced by Carl Hansen & Son, the Hunting Table is produced by an expert team of talented artisans. Each joint is precisely carved and fitted, giving the table incredible longevity. The table's proportions make it ideally suited to dining spaces, perfect for sharing a meal in sumptuous comfort.
Borge Mogensen (1914–1972) started his career as a cabinetmaker in 1934.
In 1936 he went on to study at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts under Professor Kaare Klint before entering the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from where he graduated as an architect in 1942. He became head of design at FDB (the Danish co-op) in 1942 before establishing his own design office in 1950.
