Bolstering HAY’s portfolio of classic creations in furniture design, the X-Line Chair’s focus on practicality, clean lines and high-precision steel construction was born out of the popular high-tech movement of the 1970s. This 21st-century relaunch is defined by its hot-dip galvanised frame which ensures a robust barrier against rust and corrosion when exposed to the elements outdoors.
Available in various colourways, specially curated to complement both outdoor and indoor environments, the X-Line Chair is versatile enough to be used at a dining or coffee table, or against a wall for impromptu seating wherever needed. When vacant, they can be easily stacked, giving you more flexibility in your space.

Niels Jørgen Haugesen was a leading Danish designer who embarked on his professional career under the tutelage of Arne Jacobsen, one of the most visionary architects and designers of the time.
Motivated by honesty and humility, Niels Jørgen Haugesen’s focus was more on utility than aesthetic or ornamentation, leading to minimalistic designs, clean forms and structural clarity. Haugesen designed the iconic X-Line Chair in 1977, relaunched by HAY in 2025.
