Originally inspired by Swedish design, the Saucer Wall Sconce was designed by George Nelson in 1952. It has a simplistic sculptured shape that has been innovatively constructed from taut plastic coating a steel wire-frame. Nelson’s unique design and ingenious use of materials eliminate glare and provide a relaxing, diffused light. Well known for being part of the permanent collection in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the elegant wall light is sure to bring character and style to a living or work space.
George Nelson read architecture at the renowned Yale University and completed his studies at the American academy in Rome. He was editor in chief of the 'Architectural Forum' from 1935 to 1944.
After having set up his own Architecture and Industrial design company in 1946, he began collaborating with Vitra in 1957. His pieces, such as the Coconut chair, his clocks and the Marshmallow Sofa, are regarded highly amongst the 20th Century design classics.
