Refining and reinterpreting the classic form of the humble dining chair, visionary designers Skogstad and Waernes have elevated the design to new heights by combining contemporary sensibilities with traditional techniques.
Upholstered in sumptuous leather, with a foam-filled seat, this version of the chair is exceptionally comfortable, with perfectly proportioned armrests and a contoured backrest. Named after the Roman god of trade and commerce, the Merkur was originally intended for the interior of the Oslo stock exchange.
Skogstad & Waernes is an Oslo-based design studio founded by two Norwegian designers - Petter Skogstad and Fredrik Waernes.
The pair met while studying at Oslo Metropolitan University and ECAL. After a decade of designing products for the likes of Anderssen & Voll, Andreas Engesvik and Snohetta, and a variety of other world-leading studios, they decided to pool their talents and form their own studio. Their approach to design is authentic and thoughtful, producing considered products that showcase the pair’s experience and eye for detail. They work in a variety of different areas, from furniture to lighting and accessories.
