Turning from her usual medium of paint to that of hand-loomed wool, designer Claudia Valsells has overcome the challenges of working in a new medium to create a striking collection of rugs in a multitude of beautiful colours.
The central space of the nanimarquina Tones 1 Kilim draws the eye, encouraging you to place items in the centre of the rug, while complimentary colours add a pleasing visual contrast towards the edges of the piece. Created using traditional hand-loomed kilim techniques, the rug has a uniquely aged look, imparted by the Afghan wool.
Born in 1969, Claudia Valsells began her career as a mural painter.
Studying her craft at the Brussels-based Institute Superior de Peinture Van Der Helen et Logelain, Valsells’ style began to evolve. Revelling in the use of colour as a vehicle of expression and visual experience, she worked as an artist and colourist before exploring the fields of both architecture and interior design.
