Like the rest of the Bit Collection, the Bit side table features an innovative structure formed of recycled industrial and household waste plastic.
Simon Legald’s design transcends the traditional assumptions of indoor and outdoor living, able to easily move between different spaces depending on the changing needs of modern life. The moulded plastic fragments that make up the chair can be easily recycled again, ensuring the chair has a long, circular lifecycle.
Simon Legald studies design at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and will graduate in the Summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable, and is what describes functionality of the products. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological- and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects, and makes them trustworthy. In my designs I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
