Bringing his quintessential brand of Danish minimalism to the table, Simon Legald has distilled the feelings of comfort and security epitomised by “hygge” into a simple dining chair. With a purity of materials and clean, flowing lines, the Normann Copenhagen Hyg Dining Chair adds a sense of calm to your dining spaces. The plastic shell has been expertly shaped to mirror the contours of your body, providing an unparalleled level of comfort, allowing you to relax for hours whether you’re sharing a lavish feast, or eating a quiet dinner.
Simon Legald studies design at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and will graduate in the Summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable, and is what describes functionality of the products. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological- and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects, and makes them trustworthy. In my designs I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
