Simon Legald has expertly crafted the Normann Copenhagen Pad Lounge Chair High Swivel, combining different elements together to enhance the tactility and texture of the piece. The chair’s shell is constructed from moulded oak veneer which adds a natural touch, while the soft fabric upholstery adds a sumptuous new dimension. The metal frame adds a reassuring strength and solidity. The design has an inherent duality between boxy and rounded shapes, effortlessly combing comfort and elegance. Part of the Pad collection.
Simon Legald studies design at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and will graduate in the Summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable, and is what describes functionality of the products. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological- and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects, and makes them trustworthy. In my designs I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
