Constructed from full-length solid pine planks, the Normann Copenhagen Plank Bookcase radiates an understated elegance. The simple and uncomplicated design makes it perfect for a wide variety of different spaces. The generously proportioned shelves allow you to store a wide variety of different objects.
Simon Legald’s artful use of solid wood gives the bookcase a robust quality, emphasising the design’s utilitarian minimalism. Finished with a clear varnish that protects the wood from UV rays, the Plank is set to become an enduring part of your space for years to come.
Simon Legald studies design at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and will graduate in the Summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable, and is what describes functionality of the products. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological- and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects, and makes them trustworthy. In my designs I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
