Constructed from double powder-coated steel, the Normann Copenhagen Vig Bench is exceptionally durable, and designed to weather extreme conditions while remaining pristine. Thoughtfully designed by Simon Legald, the bench carries the same aesthetic hallmarks as the other pieces in the Vig collection, showcasing Legald’s particular brand of considered Scandinavian minimalism.
All extraneous detail has been stripped back, leaving a functional yet stylish piece of design, perfect for use alongside the Vig dining table to create a beautiful outdoor dining arrangement.
Simon Legald studies design at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and will graduate in the Summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable, and is what describes functionality of the products. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological- and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects, and makes them trustworthy. In my designs I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
