Elegantly blending wood and steel, Simon Legald has created a striking piece of functional design in the Vig Outdoor Dining Chair. The varied elements of the piece combine together to create a comfortable seat suited to a wide range of different outdoor spaces. Whether arranged around a dining table or stacked away for the winter, the chair has a simple aesthetic quality.
Legald has considered every element of the design, from the curved frame to the slatted seat, ensuring it ties into the other pieces in the Vig collection.
Simon Legald studies design at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and will graduate in the Summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable, and is what describes functionality of the products. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological- and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects, and makes them trustworthy. In my designs I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
