The inspiration for the E8 table was a table dating back to the post-war era which stood in the designer's kitchen. The design appealed to Mathias Hahn so much that he used it as the basis for his own design. The result is called E8 and is named after the postcode of the designer's former home in London. All of the surfaces are coloured with the exception of the table top. "The contrast between the colour and the wood makes the table top appear two dimensional and underlines its functional character," explains Mathias Hahn.
London-based German designer Mathias Hahn has worked on diverse projects for clients such as Marset, Ligne Roset, Kvadrat, Kohler, Magazin and Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin.
Mathias has a natural desire for designing towards use and functionality. He pictures his work as having two sides. One is based on the idea to create objects that have a place in everyday life and solve a particular problem, the other one is more playful and related to the narrative side of the design process which often functions as a starting point.
