Originally shown at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Furniture Exhibition to complement the BM0865 Daybed, the BM0488 Table Bench takes its name from the reference number Mogensen scribed onto his earliest sketches.
Constructed from solid oak, its organic composition has been created through highly skilled craftsmanship, resulting in details such as traditional cabinetry joints and rounded edges that repeat in the legs and rails. Topped with a comfortable double-woven surface, the bench is versatile and practical, perfect for use in an entrance hall, at the end of a bed, or even as a coffee table, paired with an armchair or sofa.
Borge Mogensen (1914–1972) started his career as a cabinetmaker in 1934.
In 1936 he went on to study at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts under Professor Kaare Klint before entering the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from where he graduated as an architect in 1942. He became head of design at FDB (the Danish co-op) in 1942 before establishing his own design office in 1950.
