The e15 ST04 Backenzahn Stool’s unique shape is achieved by using the centre of the tree, which adds intricate details to its signature form. During the wood seasoning process, the stool’s legs develop characteristic cracks, giving each stool a distinct appearance that sets it apart from the rest.
The ST04 Side Table, also created by Mainzer, shares a similar structure and production process with the Backenzahn Stool. However, the stool has an added feature that makes it even more special; a concave dip that serves as a comfortable seat for the user.
Born in Mainz, Germany, Philipp Mainzer studied Product Design at Central Saint Martins College and Architecture at the Architectural Association in London.
During this time he established the furniture company e15 together with Florian Asche. Following several interior and furniture projects in England and Germany he moved to New York where he works as an architect and serves as creative director for e15 and Bergman.
