As his final creation, Paul Kjaerholm designed the PK15™ Chair in 1979, reflecting a lifetime of refinement and attention to detail, evident in its clean lines, organic shapes and expert use of solid ash wood and French cane.
The deceivingly simple design belies the exceptional complexity of the woodwork and craftsmanship, resulting in a serene and harmonious expression that seamlessly blends form and function. The PK15 is crafted in a way that comprises only four elements within its structure, starting with the front legs that transform into armrests and a backrest, the back legs which also transition into the backrest, and then all is secured by a brace and seat.
Poul Kjaerholm was a trained carpenter and continued his studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. He had a particular interest in different construction materials; especially steel which he considered a natural material with the same artistic fineness as other natural materials.
