The Haze Runner is defined by a bold graphic design that explores the fundamental properties of colour. Drawing on a carefully considered palette of different tones, designer Begum Cana Ozgur uses optical illusions to create a natural haze of colour, each one blending into the next to create a striking effect.
Key to this effect is the makeup of the rug’s texture, the warp and weft of the fibres perfectly balanced to give the appearance of each coloured line shifting into its neighbour. The overall effect is to produce an emotional feeling of harmony, inspired by a combination of natural colours and atmospheric haze.
Born in Turkey in 1989, designer Begum Cana Ozgur studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in the United States, graduating from a master’s program in 2014. Soon after, she opened a studio in the heart of Istanbul, allowing her to harness the rich cultural expression of her homeland; a major motivation in her work.
Ozgur’s work integrates art, design and crafts; utilising a full creative skillset to create gorgeous, expressive pieces. Her modus operandi is to play with common materials, understanding the potential that they possess, in order to develop new contemporary expressions, while promoting traditional craftsmanship and authentic forms.
