Designer Begum Cana Ozgur believes the Shade rug expresses a “sense of tranquillity” which is balanced by a “penetrating vibration of colours”. A handmade flat-weave rug, made from 100% hand-loomed New Zealand wool, the Shade Palette collection possesses an exquisite simplicity, reflective of the complex technical processes behind the creation of this beautiful designer rug, with its dual gradient design where colours converge horizontally and vertically.
Born in Turkey in 1989, designer Begum Cana Ozgur studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in the United States, graduating from a master’s program in 2014. Soon after, she opened a studio in the heart of Istanbul, allowing her to harness the rich cultural expression of her homeland; a major motivation in her work.
Ozgur’s work integrates art, design and crafts; utilising a full creative skillset to create gorgeous, expressive pieces. Her modus operandi is to play with common materials, understanding the potential that they possess, in order to develop new contemporary expressions, while promoting traditional craftsmanship and authentic forms.
