Named for the Danish word for pleasant, Simon Legald has designed the Rar collection as a humble, minimalist piece, designed to drop seamlessly into spaces of any style or arrangement. Featuring Legald’s trademark attention to detail and a sophisticated contemporary aesthetic, the lounge chair emphasises a handful of carefully selected elements, creating an aura of effortless sophistication. The meeting point between the armrest and backrest draws the eye, with rounded forms combining to create a visually interesting piece.
Simon Legald studies design at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and will graduate in the Summer of 2012. His work consists of both small- and large scale products.
“Honesty is what makes a product understandable, and is what describes functionality of the products. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological- and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects, and makes them trustworthy. In my designs I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.”
