Magnificently shaped, the Alcove Highback Two Seater Sofa is unmistakably a product drawn from the imaginations of the Bouroullec brothers.
Offering unparalleled intimacy, the Alcove’s high panels come together to create a space that feels apart from anything else and allows for a complete separation from the outside world. Fully upholstered in Volo fabric, the sculptural object is produced to Vitra’s exacting standards, meaning that the aesthetic of the vision is matched by the quality of the finish.
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, the Breton-born brothers, are the stars of European design and the most promising industrial designers to have emerged from France since Philippe Starck in the 1980s.
A combination of romanticism and functionality runs throughout both brothers’ work. Like all truly talented designers, the Bouroullecs have defined a distinctive visual style, which Jasper Morrison (one of the designers they most admire) described as “thoughtful and disciplined, with a real spirit and poetry”.
