As the first all-plastic, single piece cantilever chair to be manufactured, the pioneering Panton Chair was first produced in 1967 took, after several years in development. Since it's release, the Panton Chair rapidly came to symbolise an entire era.
In the early 1970s, Verner Panton explored the producing the Panton Chair with a mirrored surface. He felt that the chair’s dynamic curves were particularly suited to a reflective coating; however, the sensitivity of such a surface to scratching was an insurmountable technical obstacle at that time.
Today, almost 50 years later, a reliable yet complex procedure is available, one that involves highly specialised hand craftsmanship. The limited edition of Panton Chrome highlights the chair’s sculptural qualities in a spectacular way; it symbolises an old dream of the designer finally coming to fruition.

Verner Panton is one of the iconic designers of the last century. Panton rose to fame designing the ‘Panton Chair’ for Vitra. Panton’s designs continue to be hugely popular and are still a big influence today on designers and architects.
Verner Panton was a student of Architecture at the Royal Art Academy in Copenhagen. Amongst Panton’s major achievements in the design and architecture world, is the design of the interior for the Spiegel publishing house in Hamburg.
