Collaborating with Icelandic-born designer Gudmundur Ludvik, Carl Hansen & Son have produced the beautiful and effortlessly stylish GL101 Timbur Outdoor Bench, an outstanding design that exhibits all the hallmarks of a future design classic. Drawing on his background as a classically trained cabinetmaker, Ludvik has made the natural structure and feel of the wood an integral part of the bench’s design.
Constructed from hard-wearing teak wood, the bench has been designed with sustainability in mind. Each part has been carefully considered and defined by standard dimensions, minimising wastage during production. The modular design can be flat-packed to reduce the carbon footprint of shipping.
Icelandic designer Gudmundur Ludvik began his career as a carpenter before going on to study at the Icelandic Academy of Arts and the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen.
In 2010, he set up Welling/Ludvik with former fellow student Hee Welling. After establishing his own design practice, Studio Gudmundur Ludvik, he began exploring his passion for wood and traditional artisanship. His most recent work is produced by Danish design icon Carl Hansen & Son.
