Born in 1939, Rainer Daumiller’s design career began at elementary school, where he designed a desk and a wardrobe with a friend.
Apprenticing as a cabinetmaker in a nearby town, his talents blossomed under the supervision of Enwin Behr, who introduced Daumiller to the philosophies of Rudolph Steiner. Moving to Denmark in 1959, Daumiller studied under Ole Gjerlov Knudsen and Ole Vestergaard, where he gained an appreciation for new materials, along with a deepening of his carpentry skills. Daumiller is best known for his work with soaped pine, drawing inspiration from his childhood home, and his iconic dining chair was produced by the same Danish sawmill for over 25 years.
