Defined by a striking tripod stand, each leg made from the part of the tree where a branch has grown, Song and Olin wanted the stool to represent the duo of master carpenters Rudi Merz and Kari Virtanen, founders of Nikari. Standing on Rudi's legs and carrying Kari's head, the August stool playfully celebrates great craftsmanship and the beauty of organic materials.
Aamu Song and Johan Olin are artists and designers based in Helsinki, Finland. After meeting at Aalto University in Helsinki, they set up their own design company, Salakauppa, in 2010, and have since worked on numerous projects, including furniture design for Finnish furniture icons Nikari.
Their works feature in the permanent collections of various Museums, including the Design Museum Finland and Trondheim Kunstmuseum, whilst they have won a number of awards, including the State Prize for Design 2010 from the Art Council of Finland and the Helsinki design Award 2018.
